Leadership
Katherine Grichnik, M.D.

Associate Dean, CME

Katherine Grichnik is the Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education and an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. Her career has focused on establishing excellence in perioperative clinical care, investigating perioperative morbidity and pain control strategies, and educating anesthesia practitioners, from the medical student to the post-graduate physician. She has a wealth of experience having directed regional and national CME courses and as a member of national CME oversight committees. She notes that being an excellent clinician, researcher, and educator involves continually acquiring new knowledge, especially in our rapidly changing clinical world. She is dedicated to lifelong learning, patient safety and providing the highest quality CME for all healthcare providers.
Kathryn Andolsek, M.D. M.P.H. is Associate Director of Graduate Medical Education for Duke University Hospital. She served as medical director for Duke Office of CME from 2001-2006 and the Interim Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education from 2004-2006. She is a Professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine. She is well known nationally for her academic contributions in family medicine and has won accolades for the development of the Life Curriculum (http://www.lifecurriculum.info/) - a collaborative effort of Duke University Hospital, the UNC Hospitals, the NC AHEC, and the NC Physician's Health Program to assist graduate medical education programs, their residents, and faculty to prevent, identify, and manage resident fatigue and impairment.
Brooke Taylor, M.P.H. Director, Continuing Medical Education
Brooke joined the Duke Office of CME in 2002 and is responsible for managing and administering overall operations of the CME office as well as administering and maintaining Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accreditations. She received a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Dietetics and a minor in Psychology from Iowa State University and a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Community Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Brooke has presented at multiple Alliance for Continuing Medical Education conferences and received the Alliance for CME President’s award in recognition of outstanding leadership and educational contributions to the Alliance as co-author of the 2005 Annual Conference Best of Sessions publication, A Monitoring and Quality Improvement Plan for Regularly Scheduled Conferences. Brooke’s professional interests include patient safety and women’s health issues.

Tanya Jisa MSW
Senior CME Coordinator
Tanya earned a Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in Behavioral Sciences from Ohio University and a Masters of Social Work from Washington University. She worked 10 years for Emory University’s School of Medicine prior to joining DOCME. Tanya’s professional interests include women’s health, integrative/holistic medicine, and environmental sustainability issues such as those addressed by Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E).

Sherry Layton Outreach CME Coordinator
Sherry Layton is presently a candidate in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies Program at Duke University. She recently completed the Certificate in Non-Profit Management at Duke University and first-authored and presented an abstract at the annual Canadian Association of Continuing Health Education (CACHE), entitled “Environmental Management System and Continuing Medical Education: CHE/CME Goes Green.” Co-written by Deborah Gallagher, PhD, and Tanya Jisa, MSW, this abstract was the first from Duke to link sustainability with continuing medical education practices. She received her BA in Mass Communications from the University of North Carolina, Asheville, has had graduate training in English at North Carolina State University. Sherry joined the Duke School of Medicine’s Office of Continuing Medical Education in February 2006. She has experience in strategic planning and development and marketing, with extensive training in scientific editing and writing; publication design, management and production; proposal writing; fiscal management; Web-site management; conference coordination; and project direction and management. Recently Sherry wrote and published two articles in Duke Anesthesiology Alumnus magazine and narrated Duke University’s video, “Do You Know the Pain? Emergency Room Care for the Sickle Cell Disease Patient.” She has previously worked for Duke University Press, the Environmental Protection Agency, McGraw-Hill Publishing, Duke University Medical Center, and WCQS-FM radio as on-air host for NPR’s Weekend Edition

Gloria was born in Taiwan. She received BA degree from Providence College in Taiwan. She has been with CME office for 10 years. She and her husband Jamin married in Ithica, NY and then moved to North Carolina. They have two daughters. Diana, who graduated from Elon University, is working in special education at Ephesus Elementary School in Chapel Hill. Bernice, who graduated from University of Richmond, is currently in Graduate School of Virginia Commonwealth University. Outside work, Gloria enjoys Chinese calligraphy, quilting, gardening and hiking.

Elaine V. Aiken Administrative Assistant
Coleen has been working with DOCME since
March of 2006 in the position of Meeting Specialist, responsible for the Grand
Rounds meetings currently certified by our office. Coleen received her education at the University
of Colorado at Denver, and worked as both a Paralegal and Office Manager before
relocating to Durham with her husband and their two children in September,
2000.
When not at Duke, Coleen’s outside interest
include raising two children who are National Jump Rope Champions, and keeping
herself involved in both their education, as well as their passion for the
sport of Jump Rope.
Administrative
Pamela Njoku-Obi
Administrative Manager, Finance and Personnel
Pamela Njoku-Obi has been with the CME office since February 2001 and
currently manages the Finances of the office. After graduating from
California State University at Los Angeles, she spent nine years in
Nigeria with her family where she taught English as a second language.
After returning to the United States, she made a career change and
studied Business Administration specializing in Accounting. Pamela has
varied interests and enjoys gardening, sewing and hiking.
